Designer: Marcel Wanders, 1997
The Story: This amazingly odd bud vase was famously made by dropping several eggs into a condom and them creating a mold. Never to to be traditional Marcel Wanders and Moooi were incredible at making the odd object amazing. Vase is unglazed porcelain on the exterior and glazed on the interior, sized 4”x6”x5” and has minor scuffing on the bottom.

Marcel Wanders is a Dutch designer born in 1963, widely regarded as one of the most flamboyant and imaginative figures in contemporary design. He studied at the School of the Arts in Arnhem and first gained international attention in 1996 with his iconic Knotted Chair — a piece made from knotted macramé rope stiffened with epoxy resin, produced by Droog Design. It announced a sensibility that would define his career: poetic, theatrical, and unafraid of ornament at a time when minimalism dominated design culture.
In 2001, Wanders co-founded Moooi in Amsterdam alongside entrepreneur Casper Vissers. The name derives from the Dutch word "mooi," meaning beautiful, with an extra "o" added to suggest an extra degree of beauty. From the outset, Moooi positioned itself as a platform for bold, narrative-driven design, producing and distributing work by both Wanders and an international roster of designers.
The company became known for pieces like the Smoke furniture series, the Horse Lamp, and the Random Light, each carrying a distinctly surreal, story-laden quality. Moooi grew steadily into a globally recognized luxury furniture and lighting brand with showrooms worldwide.
Wanders served as art director of Moooi for two decades before departing the company in 2023 amid a period of internal transition.
