$5,000.00

Designer: Verner Panton for Matz + Kompagni by Fiske

This item is for pick up or delivery in the San Francisco Bay Area only.

The Story: This rare numbered edition of the Relaxer by Verner Panton is in amazing condition for its age, there is some scratching on the right rocking blade but is otherwise in great condition. It is also stamped and numbered by Matz + Kompagni (aka MatzForm) A0355.

….

Verner Panton designed the Relaxer rocking chair in 1974, a period when the Danish designer was at the height of his experimental, space-age design philosophy. While the world knew Panton primarily through his revolutionary single-form plastic Panton Chair, the Relaxer revealed a quieter, more organic side of his vision.

The chair rocks easily on sickle-shaped runners which support a series of slats and a channeled cushion pad— a deceptively simple structure that delivers surprising comfort. The frame is made of solid Nyatoh (Malaysian mahogany), with two bent wooden runners connected by slats, and a PU foam cushion upholstered in fabric fitted to those slats.

The chair was originally produced by MatzForm. Though it never achieved the iconic status of the Panton Chair, the Relaxer has steadily grown in reputation among collectors.
