Massimo Vignelli (1931–2014) was a titan of Modernist design whose work defined the visual landscape of the late 20th century. Born in Milan, he trained in architecture before relocating to New York in 1966. Guided by the mantra,"If you can design one thing, you can design everything," Vignelli applied a rigorous, grid-based logic to a vast array of disciplines, including graphic, interior, and product design.
Alongside his lifelong partner and wife, Lella Vignelli, he co-founded Vignelli Associates in 1971. His legacy is defined by a relentless "fight against ugliness," characterized by extreme clarity, geometric simplicity, and a devotion to a handful of classic typefaces, most notably Helvetica.
